About Hunehar
Hunehar is a non- profit student run organization founded in 2012 to ensure that all children can exercise their right to basic education. Our aim is to educate, empower and support out-of-school children in underserved areas of Pakistan by providing them good quality education, building their skillsets and providing psycho-social support.
How Hunehar Works ?
Team Hunehar functions systematically in identification of deserving children and their enrollment in different schools across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. We search for children who have been deprived of primary education due to financial restraints or difficult domestic circumstances. We also encourage our sponsors and donors to reach out to us if they come across a child who needs financial aid. More recently, Hunehar founded their own school, The Hunehar Welfare School, in Mehrabadi, a village in the outskirts of Islamabad. Our team regularly conducts awareness sessions for the locals of Mehrabadi, encouraging them to enroll their children in our school.
What is Hunehar Welfare School ?
In 2017, Hunehar achieved yet another milestone and founded its very own school: Hunehar Welfare School, in Mehrabadi, a village on the outskirts of Islamabad. Previously, our team would enroll children in different schools in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, but now we have the opportunity to enroll students in our own school.
- Hunehar Welfare School has enrolled over 200 children since 2017.
- We currently have eight grades. (Play group, Nursery, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5).
- Each year we add one grade and our long-term goal is to provide education to these children up to Matriculation.
- Hunehar believes in empowering the women of Mehrabadi and providing employment opportunities. Therefore, our faculty is exclusively female, trained under the mentorship of Ms. Saima Rehman (Principal at Roots School System).
- Our teachers follow the National Curriculum Council (NCC).
- Other facilities for the children include a library, computer lab, and a playground.
How does sponsorship work?
- Every child supported by Hunehar, whether outside of our network or enrolled in Hunehar Welfare School, is supported by a sponsor somewhere around the world.
- The sponsor donates a fixed amount every month that is used to support the education of their sponsored child and provide them with uniforms, stationary, school bags and lunch.
- Sponsorship donation can be sent monthly, quarterly or yearly.
- Sponsorship for one child costs: 3000Rs/month (15 US $, 13 GBP, 22 CAD)
- Sponsors are sent monthly news letters as updates and biannual report cards of the children.
- Sponsors are allowed to write letters to their sponsored child, set up meetings and send gifts if they want to.
Meet the principal of Hunehar Welfare School
Q: Tell us about your story before joining Hunehar.
I am Saima Rehman, an old educationalist. I graduated from ICG with economics and
psychology as my specialties. I am an honorary, volunteer principal since
October 2019 at Hunehar Welfare School.
Q: What made you join Hunehar?
I consider it a moral obligation to positively and selflessly contribute towards
social uplift of our society. Hunehar provided me with such an opportunity.
Q: What is your vision for the future of Hunehar?
A blossoming and ever-expanding institution which provides an opportunity to the
have-nots of our society in becoming better citizens.
Q: What is your message for the people of Pakistan?
Education, respect and love are the only treasures which increase when
distributed.
